INTERNATIONAL restaurant business, Barcelos, is investing $700 000 in establishing two outlets in Harare after an initial investment in Bulawayo.
The South Africa-headquartered restaurant, which first established its shop in Bulawayo in August this year, plans to spread its operations across the country with Harare as its second port of call. Company director, Mr Benson Muneri, said two outlets would be opened in the capital before the festive season as a cost of about $350 000 each.
“Two stores have been earmarked and signed off for Harare Central Business District. We are set to open before the festive season as we see Harare as the ultimate pronouncement of our arrival in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“Two stores are at a cost of $350 000 each and we are happy to invest back home and give locals opportunities in several fields.”
Mr Muneri said they were planning to spread their wings countrywide by opening more stores in the next 12 months. He added that they were looking at employing a minimum of 35 people in each store and that new employees will be taken to South Africa for training and induction.
“Each store in Harare will have 35 employees minimum that will be taken to South Africa for training and induction before the stores trade. We aim to have six stores in Zimbabwe in the next 12 months and we are also finalising setting up a head office and central kitchen in Zimbabwe to support our local stores and future growth from within the Zimbabwean market,” he said.
Mr Muneri tipped their Harare customers to expect the best flame grilled “peri- peri” chicken in town “in a safe, clean environment and world class look and feel”.
