Mozambique Breweries (CDM) plans to build a new plant in Maputo province’s Marracuene district later this year at a cost of US$180 million, the firm’s chief executive Tomaz Salomao announced on Wednesday. Salomao told reporters in Maputo that construction of the new brewery would commence during the last quarter of 2018 and is expected to be completed at the end of next year.
The plant is expected to produce about 200 million litres of beer annually.
“CDM hopes to invest US$180 million and create about 1,000 jobs in the construction phase and just over 235 direct jobs in the start-up period of production,” said Salomao.
CDM is the largest brewer in Mozambique, with factories in Maputo, Beira, and Nampula.
It is the local subsidiary of Belgium-based multinational brewing company Anheuser-Busch InBev.
