  • Hotel occupancy remained stable at 48%, consistent with last year's rate
  • Revenues rose by 2% to $8.7 million, up from $8.5 million in Q1 2024

Harare-Rainbow Tourism Group Limited (RTG), the second-largest hotelier group in Zimbabwe, has invested 1 million in the first quarter of 2025 for hotel refurbishments according to its latest trading update.

The group completed room refurbishment at Victoria Falls Rainbow Hotel and made improvements at the New Ambassador Hotel and A’Zambezi River Lodge.

At the New Ambassador Hotel the guest rooms underwent a comprehensive refurbishment, including the full replacement of furniture and fittings, as well as the upgrading of bathrooms with contemporary fixtures and enhanced amenities, aimed at delivering a refreshed and modern guest experience.

A’Zambezi River Lodge guest rooms were refreshed with updated furnishings, lighting, and enhanced amenities.

‘’The total investment for these refurbishments was US$1 million,’’ reads the trading update.

As a result of these  refurbishment, the group’s  hotel occupancy remained static at 48% the same with last years occupancy.

This was due to revenue per available room (RevPAR) increasing  to US$48 from US$43 in the comparative period.

Therefore revenue marginally increased by 2% to US$8.7 million, up from US$8.5 million recorded in Q1 2024.

The  growth was driven by an increase in conference volumes, particularly in city hotels, highlighting robust demand for meetings and events.

The group's tour operations arm, Heritage Expeditions Africa (HExA), delivered a standout performance, with a 20% increase in revenues fuelled by growing demand for tours across Zimbabwe, particularly in Victoria Falls.

HExA's momentum is expected to continue throughout 2025, capitalising on the rising popularity of Zimbabwe's natural and cultural attractions.

RTG has also expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of Montclair Resort & Conference in the Eastern Highlands, strengthening its foothold in both leisure and conferencing markets.
