- Nyamhuka 1 water facilities expected to benefit residents
- Government expects 90% access to quality water sources by 2025
- Up from 77.3% in 2020
Harare – Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA), is constructing new water supply systems in Nyamhuka 1 in Nyanga that is funded by the government through its Public Sector Investment Program to provide good access to quality water sources.
The provision of good water quality is expected to be one of the factors that are going to help the nation reach its upper-middle-income status by 2030 in line with the government’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
Writing on Twitter yesterday, Permanent Secretary of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Magwana said Nyamhuka 1 water facilities aims to achieve the middle-income status for the nation, that is difficult to achieve without access to clean water facilities.
The government is investing in quality water supply projects to ensure that the nation access a safe water supply by 2025 as part of the NDS1.
In March this year, the government also resumed the construction of the Gwai-Shangani dam, another project meant to provide a permanent water solution to Bulawayo and Matebeleland region residents.
The dam construction is expected to be complete by December this year, while the 245km pipeline that connects the dam with Bulawayo expected to end in 2022.
In the drafted NDS1, government anticipates achieving universal access to improved water sources up from 77.3% in 2020 to 90% in 2025.
