Puma Aviation, part of Puma Energy, the global integrated midstream and downstream energy company, has announced its entry into the aviation fuel market in Mozambique. Puma Aviation will work in close partnership with local company Petromoc.

Mozambique’s aviation market continues to grow, largely due to the opening of its domestic market to foreign airlines last year. This includes low-cost airline Fastjet launching its first domestic service in the country. For Mozambique to continue this growth, security of supply and service enhancement is vital.

Puma Energy first moved into Mozambique in 2009, with the opening of the Petrobeira terminal and has continued to invest in midstream operations in Mozambique since then. This includes the opening of a 115,000m3 fuel terminal in Matola, which now acts as a strategic storage hub to supply the surrounding countries of Southern Africa.

The entry into the aviation fuel market marks the next stage of Puma Aviation’s expansion in the region. It will market and supply aviation at seven airports in the country: Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Nacala, Tete, Inhambane and Pemba.

“Mozambique’s aviation market is at an exciting point, with strong potential for growth – particularly through tourism and economic development”, adds Seamus Kilgallon, Head of Aviation at Puma Aviation. “We have been building our wider capabilities in the region for several years now. Our partnership with Petromoc, new import storage capacity and higher technical capabilities make us the ideal partner for this market”.
