Kenyan firm clinches deal to digitise Zimbabwe bank

A Kenyan based global software company has secured a contract to digitise the operations of a Zimbabwean commercial bank.
Software Group, which is headquartered in Nairobi, is expected to install agency, Internet and mobile banking platforms for Metbank.
The bank wants to have digital registration and biometric data of its customers to boost its efficiency.
Software group which has a reach in more than 65 countries globally is expected to enable Metbank increase its footprint in areas where it does not have branches, as well as make services more easily accessible to its customers.
The company which entered into a similar partnership with Kenya’s Unaitas, says its software will also make it possible for agents to process balance enquiries, mini statement printouts, cash deposits and withdrawals.
Russell Taylor, Chief Commercial Officer at Software Group, said the partnership will make it possible for corporate customers to use the same functionalities in addition to making bulk payments into individual accounts.
“Currently, Metbank serves around 70,000 customers from large corporations, small to medium enterprises, as well as individuals. They are one of the fastest growing institutions in Zimbabwe and we are happy to support them in their digitisation journey and help enhance the bank’s operations,” said Mr Taylor.
The Metbank managing director Belmont Ndebele said the project with Software Group is one of the key steps for achieving the company’s business strategy.
“Software Group has extensive experience in the region, providing alternative delivery channels for the financial domain and consulting on digitisation best practices. We rely on establishing a long-term partnership to help us digitise our business and enable us to reach our customers even more effectively,” said Ndebele.
