Arcturus Mine goes on lockdown on COVID-19

Harare – TN Gold-Arcturus Mine is set to go on lockdown from the 27th of March 2020 so at ensure the safety of its occupants from coronavirus.

The lockdown shall entail a  number of measures that include a temporary moratorium on the ejectment of illegal occupants of the Company’s Arcturus Mine houses, provided that the illegal occupants and their families shall be registered with the mine authorities to ensure that they can be accurately accounted for and further provided that the illegal occupants shall be relocated to Section D and F of the Arcturus Mine Suburb.

The TN Group CEO Tawanda Nyambirai said the relocation is meant to ensure there is a separation between the houses occupied by the mine’s employees and those occupied by illegal occupants.

In addition, the illegal occupants are to start contributing to utility bills that include electricity bills, the cost of sewer and refuse reticulation, the cost of chemicals used to purify water and other related costs which they have not been contributing to.

As per Government’s directive, the Arcturus Mine schools shall remain closed.

In order for Arcturus Mine to become a COVID-19 safe zone, the mine’s Ceylon Mine houses shall be designated as a quarantine zone while the mine will be closed to visitors.

Inhabitants of Arcturus Mine seeking to leave the mine with the intention of returning shall require a permit issued by the mine’s SHERQ Executive and they will be put under compulsory quarantine at Ceylon Mine where they shall be under observation for a minimum period of 14 days and will only be allowed back to their houses upon clearance by qualified health professionals.

Mine shops shall be set up to cater to all the inhabitants of Arcturus Mine while the Arcturus Mine Clinic shall be reopened and re-equipped with guidance from the Ministry of Health and the Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe.

“Employees of the TN Group that work in divisions that offer essential services such as TN Bakery, TN Beverages and the Head Office and live in areas where they will have to use public transport shall be temporarily evacuated with their families and housed in the Gladstone Suburb within our Arcturus Mine”, Mr Nyambirai said.

He also added that when not within Arcturus Mine, such employees shall at all times be under the control of the SHERQ Executive and supervision of a Health Professional to be recruited before Friday 27 March 2020 and any employee who violates these restrictions shall be put under compulsory quarantine at Ceylon Mine.

The lockdown of Arcturus mine shall be effective for a period of 30 days unless it is reviewed prior to the expiry of the 30 days.
