Harare – Former Banc ABC executive has re-emerged at a Botswana listed microfinance bank.

Gwen Muteiwa whose previous designation was finance director of Banc ABC Zimbabwe before being offloaded in a restructuring exercise has been appointed Group Chief Financial Officer of Letshego Holdings Limited.

Muteiwa has experience working in the banking and finance sector having worked for firms such as ReNaissance Merchant Bank, BancABC Zimbabwe and the holding company, ABC Holdings Limited where she worked before joining Letshego in March 2020.

“Gwen brings 20 years of experience in banking, joining Letshego from the role of Group Chief Financial Officer at ABC Holdings Ltd (BancABC, part of Atlas Mara), where she was responsible for the finance function in six operations in Southern and East African markets”, Letshego said.

She spent 12 years at ABC Holdings after leaving ReNaissance Merchant Bank in 2011 and held roles that include the CFO for Zimbabwe, incorporating retail and wholesale banking, asset management and micro-lending subsidiaries, as well as a role of Group Head of Finance Transformation.

“In her transformation role she led the implementation of a financial controls framework, standardisation of financial control systems and processes across the group”, the Group said.

Her appointment comes after the shaking up of Letshego’s top executive in 2019 that saw the departure of the Group’s CFO, CE and COO who have now been replaced by a new team which Muteiwa is part of.

Before joining ABCH Muteiwa spent years in the Zimbabwe banking sector, including three years as Managing Director of ReNaissance, where she was responsible for strategy implementation, customer acquisition and growth as well as a stint in corporate advisory.

A qualified chartered accountant, she is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ) and the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

Letshego Holdings Limited is a microfinance holding company, headquartered in Gaborone, Botswana. It serves more than 300 000 consumers, by its micro lending subsidiaries across ten countries in Southern, Eastern and Western Africa.
